Constantine in TrierTrier is a perfect place to exhibit the Constantine exhibitions. From 293 to 395 it was capital of the Western Part of the Roman Empire. In itself it can boast of some of the best-preserved buildings from late Antiquity, Porta Nigra and the famous Basilica of Constantine. In the surroundings of the city a number of excavations and exhibits can give any traveller a busy and interesting holiday. The best place to start planning is at the homepage, Strasse der Römer.
Constantine exhibition in three places
The exhibition is located at three venues. The main display is at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum, that has been renovated recently. Here visitors can absorb themselves in the culture as well as lives and times of Late Antiquity. Topics are luxury at the emperor’s court, chariot racing, gladiatorial games and multicultural religiosity.
At the Bischöfliches Dom- und Diözesanmuseum the visitor can go into more detail with the Christianisation that took place during and after the reign of Constantine the Great. Another highlight is the famous ceiling paintings found in Trier, which will be on show. In the garden there is the possibility of visinting a true replica of one of the first churches in Christianity, Dura Europos.
Finally at the Art Museum, Stadtmuseum Simeonsstift, one can follow the enormous impact Constantine has had on rulers and artists in European history.
