A reconstruction of an ocean going longship from the Viking Age, ca 1040
Building the Sea Stallion

This ship, built of oak in 2000-2004 in the boatyard at the Viking Ship Museum  in Roskilde is a reconstruction of the large warship Skuldelev 2 from the Skuldelev find.  The original ship that can be seen in the museum was built following traditional Scandinavian boat building methods in Dublin ca. 1040. It sailed at least once across the North Sea, as is proved by the fact that it ended its days as a wreck at the bottom of Roskilde Fjord.
